Bobby: Nava was 'completely off the radar'

BOSTON -- There has been plenty of talk in recent days regarding red-hot Daniel Nava. On Friday, Valentine admitted how unaware of Nava he was when he got to Florida for his first spring training with the Sox. Until recently, he didn't even know Nava was a switch hitter.

"He was completely off the radar," the manager said.

It is rather incredible to consider that Nava wasn't invited to big league camp in spring training, especially when one takes a gander at Nava's numbers since joining the Sox in May. Entering Friday he was hitting .340 with a .973 OPS, second on the team only to David Ortiz.
