Red Sox in on Garza, out on Dempster
ESPN.com senior baseball writer Jayson Stark tweeted Thursday that, according to a source, the Red Sox were still in the hunt for Cubs righty Matt Garza but are out on his teammate Ryan Dempster, whom Theo Epstein was trying to trade as soon as possible.
The 28-year-old Garza, who is under contract through 2013, is 5-7 with a 4.02 ERA this season in Chicago. Since June 1, Garza is 3-4 with a 3.80 ERA. He has gone at least six innings in 6 of his last 8 starts and has surrendered 3 earned runs or fewer in 7 of his last 8 starts.
