ARLINGTON, Texas -- Red Sox designated hitter David Ortiz continues to receive treatment in Boston for his right Achilles strain, and he tells ESPNBoston.com that he’s feeling much better and is scheduled to start swinging a bat when he rejoins the team on Friday in New York.
Ortiz suffered the injury during a 5-1 win over the Chicago White Sox on July 16 at Fenway Park. He had a MRI taken the following day, then flew to Miami last Wednesday for a second opinion before the Red Sox placed him on the 15-day disabled list. He’s eligible to be activated on Aug. 1.
Ortiz is hitting .316 with 23 homers and 58 RBI in 89 games this season.
