ARLINGTON, Texas -- Will Middlebrooks grew up a hit-and-run away from Rangers Ballpark, and during this three-game series against the Rangers, he played in front of hundreds of friends and family from his hometown of Texarkana, which is about 2 1/2 hours from Arlington.
Middlebrooks did not disappoint.
The rookie third baseman went 6-for-12, including solo home run in the fourth inning Wednesday that gave the Red Sox a 2-0 lead. He also played solid defense, as usual.
“I had a decent series, but we lost two of three,” Middlebrooks said. “We’re here to win games.”
He did admit it was nice to go deep in front of his hometown crowd.
“It was a lot of fun,” he said. “It would have been a lot more fun if we could have won. It was fun to play in front of all my friends and family.”
