BOSTON -- Red Sox starter Josh Beckett left Tuesday’s game against the Detroit Tigers in the top of the third inning due to an undisclosed injury.

Beckett, the subject of trade speculation leading up to the 4 p.m. deadline, remained a member of the Red Sox, but didn't stick around long against Detroit. After walking Miguel Cabrera with the bases loaded to force in a run that gave the Tigers a 1-0 lead, Beckett signaled for the training staff to come out to the mound, shaking his head from side-to-side as he did so.

Beckett had set down the first eight men he faced. He gave up an infield single with two outs in the third before hitting a batter and walking two more. He left to some boos as rain fell steadily at Fenway Park.

The right-hander hurt his back pitching on a wet mound in Yankee Stadium two years ago. He made it clear at the time that he was not pleased to be pitching in those conditions, although those were much worse than the conditions Tuesday night.
