Like many of the Red Sox starters, Carl Crawford left Sunday's 14-1 rout over the Indians a little early. But Crawford, who has been dealing with a wrist issue since spring training, said that also was a factor in his departure.

Crawford said that while his surgically repaired wrist was bothering him, he could have stayed in the game if the score was closer. Crawford left after the Red Sox scored eight runs in the top of the fifth inning to take a 14-1 lead. Crawford went 3-for-4 with three doubles, three RBIs and two runs before departing.

Crawford is hitting .298 (25-for-84) with 5 doubles, 1 triple, 2 home runs, 9 RBIs and 9 runs in his last 10 games.

"It was a little sore today. It is what it is," Crawford told reporters. "I've been playing with pain the whole time I've been back. It's just one of those things where it's a little more sore than other days today." Crawford also said he may need an injection to ease the pain.

Manager Bobby Valentine said he thought the issue wasn't anything major.

"His wrist was bothering him a little today and that’s why he came out," Valentine said. "It’s a little thing . . . I hope."
