BOSTON -- Red Sox pitcher John Lackey is scheduled to throw a live batting practice session Saturday at Fenway Park. The right-hander had Tommy John surgery last offseason, and there's a slight possibility he could be activated and pitch in some capacity before the end of this season, according to Valentine.
"Lack's been throwing really good in the bullpen and now we'll set up some hitters for him [Saturday]," Valentine said. "I don't know if he's fully recovered, but it sure is close. He's really throwing the ball well."
Valentine added that Lackey is "real close" and could be a couple of weeks from throwing in a game.
Red Sox outfielder Daniel Nava (wrist) will be eligible to be activated from the DL in two days and he said he's feeling good and looking forward to officially rejoining the team for the rest of the season.
