Sox to honor Pesky on Sept. 23

The Red Sox announced Wednesday that they host a public tribute to Johnny Pesky after their 1:35 p.m. Sunday game on Sept. 23 at Fenway Park.

The ceremony is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. and is free to the general public. Current and many former players are expected to attend.

The celebration will feature anecdotes from Pesky's friends and former baseball cronies, displays that chronicle Pesky's public and private lives, and an opportunity for fans to write tributes and personal messages that will be given to Pesky's family and become part of the Red Sox archives.

Pesky died on Aug. 13 at the age of 93.
