After announcing the trade of Zach Stewart earlier Wednesday, the Red Sox made two other minor deals.
Third baseman Danny Valencia was sent to the Baltimore Orioles in exchange for cash considerations and right-handed pitcher Sandy Rosario was traded to the Oakland Athletics in exchange for a player to be named later or cash considerations.
Valencia, who was aquired from the Minnesota Twins on August 5, had been designated for assignment on November 20. He played in 10 games with the Red Sox in 2012, going 4-for-28 (.143) with a home run and four RBI. He hit .306 (15-for-49) in 13 regular season games for Pawtucket.
Rosario was claimed by Boston off waivers from the Miami Marlins on October 17 and was also designated on November 20. Rosario had a 1.04 ERA (3 ER/26.0 IP) with 16 saves and 24 strikeouts over 25 appearances for Miami’s Triple-A club in New Orleans in 2012.
