Red Sox payroll at around $157 million

4/1/2013

NEW YORK -- Now that we know the 25-man Red Sox roster, the total payroll for the season becomes a little clearer.

The Red Sox are currently at just over $157 million, which is reached by adding the salaries of those on the major league roster (including players on the DL, indicated by asterisks), plus about $10 million in benefits, plus the $3.9 million they are paying the Dodgers toward the salaries of Adrian Gonzalez, Carl Crawford and Josh Beckett.

The luxury tax payroll threshold for 2013 is $178 million. The Sox are currently well short of that figure, even if they add to it with in-season additions. Here is the player-by-player breakdown, ranked by payroll number.
