BOSTON -- Outfielder Shane Victorino (hamstring) and third baseman Will Middlebrooks (back) are on track to be activated as soon as their 15-day period on the disabled list expires, manager John Farrell said Tuesday.

Victorino is eligible to come off the DL next Wednesday, when the Sox are at home versus the Texas Rangers. Middlebrooks is scheduled to come off a week from Saturday, when the Sox are at home versus the Angels.

Both players are expected to be sent out on short rehab assignments before they are activated, Farrell said. Pawtucket returns home for a series beginning Friday against Syracuse, so it’s reasonable to assume Victorino will join the PawSox there this weekend. Their homestand continues next week (June 4-7), which should give Middlebrooks a chance to join them, as well.

Farrell also announced that Clay Buchholz, who had to skip from his scheduled start Monday because of a collarbone issue, will open the Yankees series Friday night in the Bronx.
