With about 24 hours to go before the non-waivers trade deadline, the Arizona Diamondbacks have improbably emerged as the frontrunners to land Chicago White Sox starter Jake Peavy, according to a major league source.
Peavy was scratched from tonight’s start by the White Sox.
The 32-year-old has been linked in trade rumors to teams like the Boston Red Sox, St. Louis Cardinals, Atlanta Braves, Los Angeles Dodgers, Oakland Athletics and now the Diamondbacks. He brought multiple packed suitcases on the road trip in anticipation that he would have to join a new team.
The Diamondbacks are 54-51, 2½ games behind the first-place Dodgers in the NL West.
