NESN broadcaster Jerry Remy issued a statement on his Twitter account (@Jerry_Remy) Saturday reacting to the arrest of his son, Jared, who has been charged in the murder of Jennifer Martel.

The statement reads:

"My thoughts and prayers go out to Jenn Martel and her family. Words cannot describe my wife’s and my grief.

"Son or not, I am at a loss for words articulating my disgust and remorse over this senseless and tragic act.

"We are heartbroken,

"Jerry Remy”

Remy was in Toronto with the team Thursday night when his son was arrested at the Waltham apartment in which he lived with Martel and their young daughter. The former player and longtime broadcaster did not work Friday night’s game against the Yankees, and NESN announced that Dennis Eckersley would take Remy’s place on the team's West Coast trip to San Francisco and Los Angeles. Sox games this weekend are on national TV (Fox Saturday, ESPN Sunday) and not broadcast by NESN.
