Ellsbury, Victorino back in lineup

BOSTON -- Red Sox outfielders Jacoby Ellsbury (thumb) and Shane Victorino (hip) both returned to the lineup on Monday after being pulled from Sunday’s 7-6 victory over the Chicago White Sox.

“By the time they got some treatment before they left yesterday it was looking more and more like they’d be available today, that was re-confirmed this morning,” Farrell said. “We’re at the time of year most everyday player is dealing with something but they’re ready to go. Everybody here recognizes the situation we’re in and the need to answer the bell every day.”

Victorino was removed in the sixth inning of Sunday’s game after injuring his left hip in the fourth on a slide into first base. Meanwhile, Ellsbury was lifted in the ninth with a sore left thumb, a result of getting jammed in several at-bats.

Farrell spoke about his team’s willingness to play through injuries this season.

“I think that probably stems from when their teammate looks them in the eye and asks are they ready to go today,” he said. “I think it’s harder to tell your teammate no. ... That’s one of the characteristics of this team is that there is an accountability to one another in here.”
