Quick hits from John Farrell

BOSTON -- Red Sox manager John Farrell this morning discussed his thinking behind tapping Felix Doubront over Matt Thornton for the 25-man ALDS roster, saying it was Doubront’s ability to pitch multiple innings that put him over the top.

There is a light sprinkle at Fenway Park, where the tarp is on the field, but Farrell said he didn’t expect rain to be an issue by gametime (3:07 p.m. ET).

Farrell added that Jackie Bradley Jr., Drake Britton and Rubby De La Rosa were headed to Fort Myers, Fla. To stay active in case they are needed. Ryan Lavarnway, Thornton and John McDonald are staying with the Red Sox and dress for games even though they are not on the roster.
