Ross will catch Lester in Game 1

October, 12, 2013
BOSTON -- David Ross will start tonight’s Game 1 behind the plate for the Boston Red Sox in place of starting catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia, manager John Farrell said.

Ross got the nod over Salty, Farrell said, because he caught Game 1 starter Jon Lester’s gem against the Tigers a month ago. Lester outdueled the Tigers’ Max Scherzer on Sept. 3, going seven innings, striking out nine and giving up just one run. Instead of getting his 20th win, Cy Young favorite Scherzer (2 runs in 7 innings) was saddled with his second loss.

5. Mike Napoli, 1B
