The Red Sox have nine players on the Top 100 prospects list released by MLB.com, the most of any team in major league baseball. Xander Bogaerts ranks as the No. 2 player on the list, behind only Twins outfield prospect Byron Buxton, who is still in Class A ball.

MLB.com assigned scouting grades to their prospects on a 20-80 scale, as follows:

70-80 well above average
60 above average
50 average
40 below average
20-30 well below average

Here are the nine Sox prospects who cracked the list, with their scouting grades:

No. 2 Xander Bogaerts, shortstop

Hit: 60
Power: 70
Run: 50
Arm: 60
Field: 55
Overall: 65

Here, in part, is what MLB.com wrote about Bogaerts:

“During his brief time in the big leagues, Bogaerts showed the kind of special player he can be. He uses his smooth, balanced swing to make hard contact and drive the ball to all fields. He has big raw power and already knows how to use it in games. Bogaerts saw time at both shortstop and third base in Boston and he is capable of playing either position. Some scouts feel he will outgrow shortstop, but there's nothing in his game that prevents him from playing there now. He has good range, soft hands and a strong arm.

“Bogaerts wasn't overmatched at all in the big leagues -- even under the bright lights of the playoffs -- and he has all the hallmarks of a future star.”

No. 30 Henry Owens, pitcher

Fastball: 60
Curveball: 55

No. 33 Jackie Bradley Jr., outfielder

MLB.com’s list takes on added credibility with the addition of former Baseball America editor Jim Callis, who has been rating prospects since 1988.
