Morning report: Grapefruit League opener

FORT MYERS, Fla. -- Good morning from the Fort, where outfielder Bryce Brentz couldn't understand why a reporter was asking him about his prowess as a bowler. Brentz, being a polite young man, answered the question, saying on a good day he might roll a 150. That left the reporter puzzled.

"I thought you were the Tennessee Boys Bowler of the Year,'' the reporter said.

"Not me,'' he replied.

Reporter's error [mine]. Even reporters need spring training.

The champion bowler, it turns out, was minor-league infielder Mookie Betts. We will have a story on Brentz later, in which he touches on subjects he actually does know about it, like how Charlie Brentz is a terrific driver's ed instructor.

In the meantime, here are lineups for the first Grapefruit League game of the season for the Red Sox, and first of back-to-back meetings against the Minnesota Twins, who share the Fort as home training base.
