FORT MYERS, Fla. -- Designated hitter David Ortiz missed the final two spring training games because of a sore right calf.
"I'm old," the 38-year-old said. He also said he was "good to go" for Monday.
Ortiz hit .054 (2-for-37) this spring, with his two hits being a double and a home run. He said he preferred the night game start times of the regular season to the 1:05 p.m. starts in March.
"I don't like spring training," Ortiz said. "I'm a guy who likes to get into a routine. Spring training, that's hard to do. Everybody has a different approach when they face me. I spend a lot of time watching video. I think about things pitchers are going to do against me.
"When I get to the field at 3 o'clock, when the game is at 7, I've got to do my homework. I see what the guys are throwing, what they're going to try to get me out with, etc., etc., etc. That's pretty much my whole routine, and that's hard to do in spring training."
