BOSTON -- Shane Victorino, who had played a full nine-inning game for Triple-A Pawtucket on Thursday night and was hoping to return to Boston on Friday, will again bat second and play right field for Pawtucket at McCoy Stadium.

Victorino, who went 2-for-4 with two runs scored for the PawSox on Thursday, was hoping to convince manager John Farrell and the team’s medical staff that he was ready to return to the Red Sox lineup against the Kansas City Royals at Fenway Park. But Farrell wanted him to play at least two nine-inning games before being activated from the disabled list.

Also, Will Middlebrooks will play third base and bat third for the PawSox.
