BOSTON -- Here’s a quick summary of the roster moves made by the Red Sox in advance of Friday night’s game against the New York Yankees:

• Newly acquired Allen Craig will be playing left field Friday night, though Farrell said Daniel Nava will still get plenty of at-bats. He said it would not be a strict platoon situation.

• Right-fielder Shane Victorino was placed on the 15-day disabled list for the third time this season with lower back and hamstring issues, and manager John Farrell was vague on how long he might be out, other than to say that Yoenis Cespedes would play the majority of time in right field. Brock Holt started in right field Friday and was in the leadoff spot.

• Cespedes and pitcher Joe Kelly were still en route as of 4 o’clock Friday afternoon but Cespedes has since arrived. Cespedes will be on the day’s lineup card and eligible to play Friday night, Farrell said, but was not in the starting lineup. Kelly will not be activated, and probably will make his first start next week in St. Louis against his former team, the Cardinals.

• Rookie right-hander Anthony Ranaudo will make his major-league debut against the Yankees Friday night. Rookie Allen Webster is scheduled to pitch Saturday, with Clay Buchholz due to go Sunday.

• Outfielder Mookie Betts was recalled from Pawtucket and will play center field and bat ninth against left-hander Chris Capuano Friday night. His stay here is expected to be short-lived.

• The Sox recalled two relievers from Pawtucket, right-hander Alex Wilson and left-hander Tommy Layne, who was signed as a six-year minor-league free agent last winter and is making his first appearance on the Sox big-league roster.

• First baseman-outfielder Mike Carp was designated for assignment.

Will Middlebrooks was called up to play third base and Xander Bogaerts is shifting back to shortstop.

• Holt will still receive regular playing time, Farrell said, mostly rotating among three positions -- center field, third base and shortstop. Holt will bat leadoff most of the time; Farrell said he was undecided on who would hit leadoff when Holt doesn’t play -- against certain left-handers, for example.

Junichi Tazawa will be the primary eighth-inning setup man after the trade of Andrew Miller, Farrell said. Other bullpen roles behind closer Koji Uehara and Tazawa still need to be sorted out.
