FORT MYERS, Fla. -- Busy morning here on reporting day for pitchers and catchers. Here’s a brief rundown so far:

  • John Lackey, who first showed up Wednesday afternoon, had his first workout this morning, playing catch with Clay Buchholz.

  • Tim Wakefield took the mound for a bullpen session.

  • Daisuke Matsuzaka played down his mild back strain, describing the condition as fatigue and said he could throw if he had to. He also said he is the best shape of his life and his goal is to get through the season healthy.

  • Lackey spoke to the media, saying after being hurt early in the season the last two years he will be more cautious this spring. He said he threw all fastballs today.

  • Catcher Victor Martinez was also spotted on the premises.

We’ll have a full recap and video this afternoon ...
