FORT MYERS, Fla. -- An early morning session with Jacoby Ellsbury:
1. On the move to left field:
"As long as it helps the team, I told them I'd be fine with it. They told me I'd still be playing a lot of center field.''
2. On being stronger, and reaching double figures in HRs:
"Yeah, I really haven’t gained weight, but I definitely noticed in my lifts I was throwing a little more weight around. It felt good.
"I think comfortably saying yeah, I don’t think (reaching double figures) should be a problem. Yeah, at least 10.''
3. On changing numbers to No. 2:
"I wore it in high school. It's may favorite number. I always wanted it. The Red Sox always knew I wanted it. Brad (Mills) wasn’t going to give it to me. When I heard Brad was promoted, within two minutes, I called Pookie (Jackson, a clubhouse man)."
4. On whether 70 stolen bases had set the bar for him:
"I'm always trying to better myself, get better than what I did. Last year was last year. I'll try to improve on it.''
5. On contact with new CF Mike Cameron:
"We tossed text messages a couple of times. I'll learn stuff from him, he'll learn stuff from me.''
6. On feeling like a veteran:
"Crazy to think I'm a veteran. This is my third full year. Yeah, it's a comfort thing. You get more comfortable, you get more confident. It's exciting to be where you have a chance to win a lot of ballgames.''
