Red Sox second-baseman Dustin Pedroia has been scratched from tonight's lineup because of soreness in the foot that he broke in June.
Jed Lowrie will take his spot at second base and bat second in the lineup.
Pedroia returned to the Boston lineup on Tuesday after being on the DL since late June. He was cleared by doctors last week to return to action and then played two rehab games over the weekend in Pawtucket. Afterward he said he felt fine and was eager to get back to Fenway.
But today Pedroia said that his foot felt "terrible" after Wednesday night's game and it didn't feel right when he ran on it this afternoon. Stealing second base Wednesday night wasn't the smartest move, he admitted.
But he added that he doesn't feel this is a serious setback. "I knew I couldn't play 43 straight games" on it, he said.
