Report: Bonser checks out OK

By ESPNBoston.com

Red Sox right-hander Boof Bonser, who pitched poorly in a start Tuesday in Pawtucket and had his right shoulder examined by team doctors in Boston on Friday, is suffering from normal stiffness and not a more severe condition, according to WEEI.

Bonser, who is only 14 months removed from reconstructive shoulder surgery, allowed nine runs in two innings, throwing only 50 pitches after being scheduled to throw 90. Bonser, ostensibly on the DL because of a groin strain, was given extra time to build up more shoulder strength, but there were troubling signs Tuesday that led the Sox to summon him to Boston.

"He had a hard time getting loose,'' Francona said after Tuesday's game. "We're going to bring him back Friday and have him examined by Mike [Reinold, the trainer and shoulder specialist] and the doctors to make sure he is OK. He wasn't complaining, but he looked like he was having a tough time.

It is unknown when Bonser will return to the mound.

The news came as a relief to Bonser, according to WEEI. "It's a big relief. I was thinking, 'Look out -- just coming off surgery, who knows what could be wrong with it?'" said Bonser. "But they checked it out and everything was good."
