Pedey, Papi want to work with Iglesias
By Gordon Edes
NEW YORK -- Rookie shortstop Jose Iglesias has been invited to train this offseason by second baseman Dustin Pedroia in Arizona, and also has a standing invitation from David Ortiz to work out for a week or so in the Dominican Republic.
That’s according to Iglesias’s agent, Fernando Cuza, who said his client plans to work extensively on improving his hitting this winter. Iglesias worked out one winter with Alex Rodriguez; he said that won’t be the case this winter.
Does Ortiz expect Iglesias to take him up on his offer?
“If he likes money he will,’’ Ortiz said with a laugh.
Iglesias has just seven hits in 63 at-bats in 24 games this season, a .111 average, as the Red Sox have given him an extended look since his callup Aug. 25. The 22-year-old Cuban has fielded as well as advertised, but a chance to play every day next season may well depend on his bat.
