Can you see Brian Wilson in Sox uniform?
ESPN The Magazine's Buster Olney had an interesting tweet this morning about the possible availability of San Francisco Giants reliever Brian Wilson:
He missed all but two games in 2012 due to an elbow injury that required reconstructive surgery, so the former Giants closer doesn't come without risk. But there's some up-side there too: He averaged 41 saves per season over the last four years. And the bearded-one is a personality as well, so there's some box office juice there as well.
Wilson, who has spent the last 10 years with the Giants, received $8.5 million in 2012. The Giants prefer to let him become a free agent then re-sign him for significantly less.
Your turn: What's your take? If the Giants do indeed non-tender Wilson, should the Red Sox pursue him? And if you think they should, do you see him as the team's new closer or as a set-up option for Andrew Bailey? We imagine Wilson srill wants to close, so he is probably unlikely to sign with a team that already has a closer. Share your thoughts in the comments section.
