Would Youkilis be a fit for Yankees?
By Joe McDonald
NASHVILLE -- Free agent third baseman Kevin Youkilis' name is circulating around the winter meetings as a possible short-term fit for the New York Yankees, with Alex Rodriguez out at least half the season after he has hip surgery next month.
Youkilis’ agent, Joe Bick, said he would not discuss which teams have expressed interest in the veteran infielder. In 122 games between Boston and the Chicago White Sox in 2012, Youkilis hit .235 with 19 homers and 60 RBIs.
Youkilis could help the Yankees while A-Rod is on the shelf, but it would be interesting to see how much New York would be willing to offer the 33-year-old, in terms of both dollars and years. It certainly wouldn’t be in the area of the $12.25 million he earned last season.
