Report: Phillies offer Hamilton 3-year deal
The Philadelphia Phillies have apparently entered the bidding for the services of free-agent outfielder Josh Hamilton.
A source close to the situation told Philly radio station 94WIP that the Phillies offered Hamilton a three-year deal. There were rumblings that the money was in the range of $80 million (about $27 millon per season), but that appears just to be speculation at this point.
The Red Sox, according to a baseball source, remain on the periphery in the Hamilton sweepstakes, waiting to see whether Hamilton gets his preferred long-term contract of up to six or seven years. The Red Sox would only be willing to go to three years on Hamilton.
Hamilton’s former team, the Texas Rangers, would still appear the most likely landing spot for Hamilton.
