SweetSpot TV: AL bold predictions
ESPN.com SweetSpot blogger David Schoenfield has high hopes for the Red Sox this season and predicts that they will earn a wild-card spot.
"The Red Sox, coming off their worst season since 1965, will win a wild-card spot," Schoenfield says.
"Have you seen Jon Lester and Clay Buchholz this spring?" Schoenfield asks. "I know, spring training stats don't mean anything. Lester, Buchholz -- ERAs under 1, but most importantly the stuff matches the performance. They look again like an excellent one-two combo.
"The bullpen could be the best in the league. And Jackie Bradley Jr., AL Rookie of the Year."
Eric Karabell and Schoenfield agree that the Rays will win the AL East, but Karabell doesn't see the Red Sox as a playoff team, arguing that the Yankees will nab a wild-card spot.
As for Schoenfield's take on the Bronx Bombers?
"The Yankees are gonna be horrible."
