Bradley watch continues at the Fort
By David Dorsey, Special to ESPNBoston.com
FORT MYERS, Fla. -- Good morning from the Fort, where the Jackie Bradley Jr. watch remains in full effect, and where the city is enduring a hoops hangover following Florida Gulf Coast University's 62-50 loss Friday night to Florida in the Sweet 16 of the NCAA men's basketball tournament.
Bradley Jr. arrived to JetBlue Park wearing a blue button-down shirt and a charcoal suit, sure signs he will be heading north and breaking camp with the team, although nothing has been made official yet.
"Everybody else is all dressed up, so I might as well join them," Bradley Jr. said.
Bradley Jr. had a contingency of seven family members, including fiancÚ Erin Heiring and father Jackie Bradley Sr., cut short their week-long stay in Fort Myers by one day. They planned on leaving town first thing this morning, driving back home to Richmond, Va., and then having time to make it to Yankee Stadium at 1 p.m. Monday should Bradley Jr. in fact make the team.
Bradley Jr. isn't in the starting lineup for today's 1:35 p.m. spring training finale at JetBlue Park against the Minnesota Twins. Why risk injury to him on the last day of fake games, if the Red Sox are serious about adding Bradley Jr. to the 40-man and 25-man rosters?
There will be more on this later after manager John Farrell's morning briefing with the media.
Here is the Red Sox starting lineup for today's game:
CF Jacoby Ellsbury
RF Shane Victorino
2B Dustin Pedroia
1B Mike Napoli
3B Will Middlebrooks
C Jarrod Saltalamacchia
LF Jonny Gomes
DH Daniel Nava
SS Jose Iglesias
LHP Felix Doubront
