Rapid Reaction: Blue Jays 6, Red Sox 2
By Gordon Edes
BOSTON -- Just guessing here, but a short list of things that make Junichi Tazawa break out in a rash:
* Tim Horton’s doughnuts;
* Don Cherry’s sports jackets;
* "O Canada"
* anything connected to the Cyanocitta cristata, also known as the blue jay.
Here’s a companion list of things that make Jose Bautista break into a smile:
* Fenway Park.
The Red Sox lost Saturday to the Toronto Blue Jays, 6-2, with Blue Jays strongman Bautista hitting two home runs in a game for the second time this season in Fenway Park, giving him 16 overall on Yawkey Way.
Bautista’s second home run came off Tazawa in the eighth and broke a 2-2 tie, the Sox having just knotted the score on Shane Victorino’s two-run single in the bottom of the seventh.
Tazawa has been a highly dependable reliever for the Sox, except when facing Toronto. This is the third time the Jays have beaten him this season, and in his career, he has an 8.03 ERA in a dozen appearances (12.1 IP, 11 ER).
The Jays tacked on two more runs in the ninth courtesy of two Boston errors.
The Sox had two runners thrown out at the plate, Victorino by right fielder Bautista with no outs in the sixth, Jarrod Saltalamacchia on a maybe-it-was, maybe-it-wasn’t squeeze bunt in the seventh.
