Sea Dogs will have big-league look
By Gordon Edes
BOSTON -- There will be a different look to the Portland outfield Thursday when the Double-A Sea Dogs play the New Britain Rock Cats at Hadlock Field in a noon game at Portland.
Typically, Taiwanese teammates Chich-Hsien Chiang and Che-Hsuan Lin line up in left field and center field for the Sea Dogs, but the plan on Thursday is for them to cede their positions to a couple of carpetbaggers: Jacoby Ellsbury and Mike Cameron.
“Arnie [Beyeler, the Sea Dogs’ manager] is going to be thrilled,’’ Sox manager Terry Francona said of Portland employing the services of both of Boston’s rehabbing outfielders, the first time they will have played in a minor league game together.
Cameron was to have played for Portland Wednesday night, but the Sox elected to pass because of the weather. Both Cameron and Ellsbury were in Boston Wednesday; Ellsbury probably will play in back-to-back games with the Sea Dogs, with Cameron a possibility to play again Friday.
