Ellsbury gets night off; Victorino leads off
By Kyle Brasseur, Special to ESPNBoston.com.
BOSTON -- Five games removed from the All-Star break, Red Sox manager John Farrell made the curious decision of giving outfielder Jacoby Ellsbury the night off against the Tampa Bay Rays on Tuesday.
“These 10 games coming out of the break are looked upon with all of equal importance trying to find some spots to rotate guys through and that’s what tonight is with Jacoby,” Farrell explained.
Since the break, Ellsbury has four hits in 15 at-bats, including his fourth home run of the season. The leadoff hitter has been on a tear since his return from the disabled list on June 6, hitting .354.
Mike Carp will make the start in left field, while Shane Victorino will slide over to center and bat leadoff, and Daniel Nava will be in right and bat second.
