'Off-line' substation blamed for outage
By Gordon Edes
DETROIT -- Joe Garagiola Jr., a senior vice president for MLB Standards and On-Field Operations, just released a statement in which he said MLB was informed by the Tigers that a nearby electrical sub-station went off-line, accounting for the power outage at Comerica Park.
Power was restored immediately, according to the statement, but it takes stadium lights 15 minutes to reset.
Play was interrupted at 4:42 p.m., just before the Tigers came to bat in the bottom of the second, and resumed at 4:59 p.m.
Lackey was given as many warmup pitches as he needed before the resumption of play.
