Sporting propositions

By Gordon Edes

BOSTON -- Ah, yes, the wise guys find ever more creative ways to separate a fool from his money, as a look at some of the World Series lines passed along by Jimmy Shapiro, publicist for the on-line gaming site, Bovada.

The Sox have been installed as 5 to 7 favorites to win the Series. The odds on the Cards are 6 to 5. David Ortiz is a 15 to 2 favorite to win Series MVP, with Dustin Pedroia at 8 to 1. Carlos Beltran is the Cardinal with the best odds, 9 to 1, while Stephen Drew comes in at 25 to 1, the longest odds of any player listed.

You can even wager on the number of times Shane Victorino will be hit by a pitch in the series—the over-under is 1—which team will hit the most home runs or make the most errors, whether anyone will be ejected, and how many batters Jon Lester will strike out in Game 1.
