Japanese reporter 1st to serve as scorer

BOSTON -- Gaku Tashiro, the first Japanese reporter to qualify for Hall of Fame voting as a 10-year member of the Baseball Writers Association of America, has been named one of three official scorers for Game 1 of the World Series. Tashiro, who first came to the United States in 2001 to chronicle Ichiro Suzuki's debut in in Major League Baseball, is a reporter and columnist for the Sankei Sports Daily.
Tashiro will serve as scorer along with long-time Boston reporter Mike Shalin and Rick Hummel, long-time reporter for the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
