Midday report: On deck, a third Pedroia boy

By Gordon Edes

FORT MYERS, Fla. -- Greetings from the Fort, where Daniel Nava is over in Twins’ camp playing center field in a minor-league game, David Ortiz is out of the starting lineup for some extra work with hitting coaches Greg Colbrunn and Victor Rodriguez, John Farrell said Shane Victorino will be ready by Opening Day, and Jonny Gomes said the red, white and blue blazers he purchased for the team (they match the boxers) have nothing to do with the team’s impending visit to the White House.

And in the day’s most significant development for the Red Sox of 2035, second baseman Dustin Pedroia confirmed that his wife, Kelli, is expecting the couple’s third child, and this one, too, will be a boy, joining his brothers Dylan and Cole.

With Opening Day starter Jon Lester stashed away in a minor-league game, Allen Webster is drawing the start against the Baltimore Orioles, who will be hosting the Sox in the regular-season opener five days from now.

The lineup:

1. Grady Sizemore, CF
2. Dustin Pedroia, 2B
3. Mike Carp, 1B
4. Mike Napoli, DH
5. Jonny Gomes, LF
6. Xander Bogaerts, SS
7. Will Middlebrooks, 3B
8. Ryan Lavarnway, C
9. Jackie Bradley Jr., RF
Allen Webster, RHP
