Lester works 1-2-3 sixth
By Gordon Edes
ANAHEIM -- Jon Lester made his All-Star debut a successful one, retiring all three batters he faced in the sixth inning.
Lester, who warmed up twice, faced former teammate Hanley Ramirez to start the inning. Lester and Ramirez had played together in each of their first four seasons in the minors before Ramirez was dealt to the Florida Marlins.
Ramirez tapped out to the mound, the ball flicking off Lester's glove before he retrieved it and threw Ramirez out.
Lester fell behind Atlanta's Martin Prado 3-and-0 before coming back to retire him on a pop to short, and San Diego strongman Adrian Gonzalez, much coveted by the Sox, rolled out to second.
