99, 100 ... Ortiz says it makes no difference
By Gordon Edes
CHICAGO -- How much did it mean to David Ortiz to record his 100th RBI on Monday in Boston’s 6-1 win over the Chicago White Sox?
“As much as it did last year, when I got 99,’’ Ortiz said.
“One RBI made a big difference. Everybody was focused on the first two months I had last year, but 99 or 100 to me is no different. One number different, the same anyway.’’
Did he think that 100 RBIs would make a difference to John W. Henry, who ultimately will decide whether to exercise his 2011 option or offer him a new contract?
“I don’t know,’’ Ortiz said with a grin. “That’s a question you should ask him. I don’t think so.’’
