Boston Red Sox: Zach Stewart

Red Sox trade Stewart for PTBNL

November, 28, 2012
The Boston Red Sox made a minor move on Wednesday, trading right-handed pitcher Zach Stewart to the Pittsburgh Pirates for a player to be named later.

Stewart, who came to Boston as part of the Kevin Youkilis trade with the White Sox, had been designated for assignment late last week in a move to free up space on the 40-man roster, leaving them 10 days to either trade or release him.

The 26-year-old went 0-2 with a 8.58 ERA in two starts for the Red Sox in 2012 and was 3-5 with a 3.94 ERA in 11 starts for the Triple-A PawSox.

Sox officially activate Bard, demote Stewart

August, 30, 2012
The Red Sox officially welcomed Daniel Bard back to the big leagues, adding him to the 25-man active roster before Thursday night's game against the Los Angeles Angels in Anaheim, Calif.

To make room on the roster, the Sox sent Wednesday's starter, Zach Stewart, back to Triple-A Pawtucket.

Bard was demoted to Pawtucket on June 5 after struggling as a starter.

"I'm a reliever," the 27-year-old right-hander said Wednesday. "I think that's all I know right now."
