WILMINGTON, Mass -- It’s been a bit of a frustrating training camp for Milan Lucic as he has had to battle hard to get back into game shape. But on Thursday, all that frustration was wiped away as Lucic and his wife Brittany welcomed their first child Valentina Lucic into the world. Milan and his wife had been eating dinner in the North End when Brittany’s water broke and from their it was a marathon of excitement and rejoicing. To make things even better, Valentina picked the 17th to be born, in honor of her Dad’s jersey number of course.
"It was good. It was a long day, but thankfully everything went well and smooth,” a smiling Lucic said. “Mother and baby are doing well, and I think I'm really thankful that it happened before the season started. She started going into labor around 11 p.m. on the 16th and then finally she gave birth around 4 p.m. on January 17. I guess it was just meant to be."
Lucic was pretty relieved that Valentina decided to come before the season started and not on the expected January 27. This way he was really able to enjoy the experience and soak it all in.
“It was cool and a first time experiencing anything like that,” Lucic said. “The first grandchild on both sides so the family’s really happy. It’s a new chapter that’s starting in my life and I’m just happy that everything went smooth and everyone’s healthy. Now I can just sit back and focus on hockey.”
