OUTCOME: The Boston Bruins elevated their play in Game 6 and clinched the Eastern Conference quarterfinal series with a 4-3 victory over the Buffalo Sabres Monday night at TD Garden. The Bruins’ David Krejci had two goals and one assist, while Mark Recchi and Miroslav Satan each contributed a goal. Boston goaltender Tuukka Rask made 27 saves.

HOW THEY DID IT: The Bruins were able to win this series by sticking to their simple game plan of getting traffic in front of Sabres’ goaltender Ryan Miller and capitalizing on their quality scoring chances -- albeit a lot of dirty ones. Stealing Game 2 in Buffalo also proved crucial for Boston. Goaltending on both sides was solid, but Bruins rookie netminder Tuukka Rask kept his calm and played like a seasoned veteran. Injuries also played a key factor for Buffalo this series as the Sabres were without the services of Jochen Hecht, Thomas Vanek, Drew Stafford and Matt Ellis for most, if not all, of the first round.

SPECIAL TEAMS: Came up huge for the Bruins in Game 6. Boston’s penalty-killing unit was perfect once again and finished the series 19-for-19 on the PK. On the other side of it, the Bruins netted a pair of power-play goals en route to the victory.

SAVE OF THE GAME: With the Bruins holding a 2-1 lead late in the second period, Rask came up huge when he stopped Vanek. The Buffalo forward returned to the lineup tonight after missing the last 3 1/2 games due to a high-ankle sprain he suffered in the second period of Game 2. He made a nice move to get around Bruins defenseman Dennis Wideman and got off a point-blank shot on Rask, who was not fooled on the play and made the save with 4:37 remaining in the period.

UP NEXT: The Bruins have to wait for the conclusion of the Capitals vs. Canadiens series to find out who they will face in the next round. If Montreal wins, the Bruins will host the Flyers. If Washington wins, Boston will face the Penguins.
