Boston Bruins defenseman Adam McQuaid is doubtful for Monday’s matinee against the Tampa Bay Lightning, Bruins coach Claude Julien told reporters after the team’s practice Sunday morning at Ristuccia Arena.
“He’s still hurting,” Julien told reporters.
McQuaid, who did not practice Sunday, suffered what appeared to be a right leg injury early in the first period and did not return as Boston defeated the Toronto Maple Leafs 3-1 Saturday night at TD Garden.
With 12:08 remaining in the first period, McQuaid was attempting to receive a pass behind the Boston net when he came up lame and dropped to the ice in obvious pain. He remained there until play was stopped. It appeared he was grabbing the groin/hip area of his right leg.
With McQuaid likely sidelined, fellow defenseman Matt Bartkowski figures to be in the lineup against the Lightning. He’s spent the majority of the season as a healthy scratch and has played only four games. He will likely be paired with Johnny Boychuk on Monday.
