WILMINGTON, Mass. -- The Bruins Tuesday recalled forward Ryan Spooner from Providence of the AHL on an emergency basis.

Spooner is wearing a gold practice sweater at practice, along with Brad Marchand and Reilly Smith. Patrice Bergeron isn't on the ice yet. There's no word on any injury to Bergeron, but it's an optional practice -- in addition to Bergeron, Zdeno Chara, Jarome Iginla, David Krejci and Loui Eriksson also aren't on the ice.

Bruins coach Claude Julien said recently he would begin to work in rest for some of the players before the Stanley Cup playoffs begin. After Tuesday’s practice at Ristuccia Arena, the Bruins begin a two-game road trip to Detroit on Wednesday and Toronto on Thursday.

Players likely to get a break from game action include Zdeno Chara, Patrice Bergeron, David Krejci and Loui Eriksson.

Spooner has played 22 games for the Bruins this season, posting 11 assists. For the P-Bruins, he has 10 goals and 30 assists for 40 points in 42 games.
