Rex's message: Get uncomfortable, lay it on the line

5/14/2010

BOSTON -- It’s games like these in which veterans stand out and unsung heroes are born.

Bruins veteran Mark Recchi has played in plenty of situations like tonight's against the Philadelphia Flyers in Game 7 of the Eastern Conference semifinals at TD Garden, so he knows exactly what to expect.

The Bruins held a team meeting within the last hour and Recchi’s message was simple.

“To lay it on the line for one game to get to the third round shouldn’t be an issue. That was the message that was definitely sent,” Recchi said.

Recchi was asked if part of his message to the team was that it has a chance to play the Montreal Canadiens in the Eastern Conference finals.

“We’ll worry about that after the game,” he answered. “We can do something special tonight and that’s the important thing. If we go lay it on the line, do everything you can, and get uncomfortable, it’s going to be a great feeling after. That’s what we’re all excited about. I can feel the excitement in the room right now and we’re ready to go.”
