Bruins defenseman Johnny Boychuk took a Brandon Dubinsky slash to the hand/wrist area early in the first period of his team’s 3-2 loss to the Rangers on Saturday night at TD Garden. Following the game, coach Claude Julien said Boychuk may have an injured hand.

Boychuk attempted to come back later in the period but was unable to play through the pain and didn’t return for the second and third periods. As of Sunday afternoon, his status was still unknown. Chances are an update will be given on Monday following the team’s practice at Ristuccia Arena in Wilmington.

“All I know is he got slashed on the hand to the point where he couldn’t return,” said Julien. “We’re not 100 percent sure yet, he’s being evaluated as far as how severe it is. It was that slash on the hand. He came back and finished the period, but there’s no way he could have came out in the second and third. We had to hold him back. We’ll probably have, as usual, a more definite, clearer message or news after he’s been through all the tests and MRIs and everything that goes with it.”
