BOSTON -- A year ago at this time, the Bruins’ Tuukka Rask was preparing to be the starting goaltender for Boston in the first round of the Stanley Cup playoffs against the Buffalo Sabres.

Now, he’ll serve as the backup for Tim Thomas.

As good as Thomas has been this season, you never know what can happen in the playoffs, so Rask is practicing and preparing as if he was playing.

“I try to approach things the same way,” Rask said. “Practice hard and focus just like you’re playing. You don’t want to change too much, because even if you’re not playing, you might be in there before you even realize it. The one difference is I played those two series last year and I have that under my belt.”

Rask played a total of 13 playoff games between the series against the Sabres and Flyers. He said it was a good experience.

“The intensity of the playoffs is so much different,” Rask said. “The hits and players crashing the net was the biggest learning experience for me.”
