BOSTON -- Celtics forward Rasheed Wallace carefully chose his words, but expressed no remorse over his ejection from Friday's loss to the Philadelphia 76ers, and suggested he was a target of referee Bill Kennedy.
Wallace picked up three fouls in nine minutes of action Friday and was tossed after being assessed a double-technical when he jawed at Kennedy from the Celtics' bench during a TV timeout with 5:35 to play in the second quarter.
In his first comments since the ejection, Wallace wondered out loud why Kennedy, who's had his run-ins with the Celtics in the past, was standing so close to the bench.
"If the [referees] are standing right near our huddle, trying to stick their ear and nose in there, then, yeah, they're going to hear some stuff," said Wallace. "That's exactly what it was. When have you ever seen a ref stand that close to our bench during a timeout? Y'all know what it is."
Wallace was then asked if he needed to alter his approach if he felt referees were out to get him.
"I'll still play my game, I'll still be me," said Wallace. "I'm not changing my game for nobody."
Wallace, who has 10 technical fouls on the season, said he was "not really" upset at himself for getting tossed. Asked if he was suggesting the referees targeted him, he twice put the question back on reporters.
"You tell me," said Wallace. "I'm pretty sure you are intelligent people. You tell me."
