BC men's soccer falls in shootout

Boston College lost to Rutgers in a shootout in the second round of the NCAA men's soccer tournament Sunday at Newton.

After a scoreless first half, the Eagles broke through with Patrick Chin's first goal of the season at 52:46. But Rutgers tied the game at 86:30 when Ibrahim Kamara converted a Sam Archer corner.

The teams then played two 10-minute overtimes, with BC getting off three shots in the first period to no avail.

In the shootout, Rutgers converted four of five shots and the Eagles hit on just three.

BC, the No. 4 seed in the tournament, outshot Rutgers 17-10 and had six shots on goalie Kevin McMullen. Midfielder Kyle Bekkar led BC with five shots, two on goal. Justin Luthy made two saves for the Eagles.

Rutgers, 7-1-2 in its last 10 games, improved to 11-6-3, while the Eagles fell to 14-7.
